7/21/2010
Memphis – Louis P. Britt, III, a partner in the Memphis office of Ford & Harrison LLP, a national labor and employment law firm, has been elected as a Fellow of The College of Labor and Employment Lawyers. Election as a Fellow is the highest recognition by ones colleagues of sustained outstanding performance in the profession, exemplifying integrity, dedication and excellence.
"I am honored to be elected as a Fellow of this prestigious organization," remarked Britt. "I will strive to apply myself in a manner to further the College's goals of promoting achievement, advancement and excellence in the practice of labor and employment law."
The fifteenth installation of Fellows will be held November 6, 2010 in Chicago, IL, coincident with the American Bar Association's Labor and Employment Law Section's Continuing Legal Education Conference. With the current installation, the College is represented by almost eleven hundred members in forty-three states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and Canada.
The College was the vision of a number of the Fellows. The idea was to further establish this profession in all its aspects as one uniquely important to the world of labor and employment law, individual rights, collective bargaining and dispute resolution. The College was established in 1995 through an initiative of the Council of The Section of Labor and Employment Law of The American Bar Association. It operates as a free standing organization recognizing those who, by long and outstanding service, have distinguished themselves as leaders in the field.
Britt concentrates his practice on employment litigation and advice, representing private and public employers in a broad range of employment matters. He handles employment discrimination and harassment cases (Title VII, ADA, ADEA and FMLA), wage/hour matters, enforcement and defense of restrictive covenants contained in employment agreements, and employment-related torts. He is experienced in complex and class action litigation, and has tried cases in state and federal courts across the country. Britt has extensive experience in public sector representation in both litigation and collective bargaining. Britt received his J.D. from Tulane University Law School in 1977.
