Introduction

This Desk Reference briefly outlines the key provisions of Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, which spells out what organizations must do to ensure that public places and commercial facilities are accessible to the disabled.

While not attempting to deal with the complex and highly specific technical requirements of Title III (governing such matters as the correct angle of slope for wheelchair ramps), this booklet discusses Title III’s primary components relating to accessibility for the disabled in public places and offers a recommended course of action to help covered entities comply with Title III and possibly prevent litigation.

This desk reference should help your organization identify issues and formulate questions, but we do not recommend that you take any steps based solely on this material.
